From Basement Beginnings to Budding Business: The Story of PeeWee Plants

Compton Baker

In high school, sophomore year, I embarked on an unforgettable journey that would plant the seeds for my entrepreneurial spirit. It all began with a class called Young Entrepreneurs of America (YEA), where we were given the incredible opportunity to create our own companies. The highlight of the course was presenting our business ideas to the school's board of directors, who believed in our vision and invested in our budding ventures. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, YEA classes were put on hold during the fall of 2020 and spring of 2021.

Undeterred by this setback, my friend and I decided to take matters into our own hands. We transformed my basement into a microgreens haven and launched our very own company, PeeWee Plants. Our mission was to grow high-quality microgreens and supply them to local restaurants in our hometown. The venture was met with enthusiasm, and we quickly built a loyal customer base that appreciated the fresh, nutrient-packed greens we provided.

The experience of running PeeWee Plants was nothing short of remarkable. From managing day-to-day operations to engaging with customers, we learned invaluable lessons about entrepreneurship, teamwork, and resilience. Sadly, in August, we had to bid farewell to PeeWee Plants as we both headed off to college. Despite the closure, the skills and knowledge we gained during this time have proven to be indispensable.

Now, as I embark on my new venture, BulBel, I am excited to apply the lessons learned from both YEA and PeeWee Plants. The experience has not only shaped my entrepreneurial journey but also instilled in me a passion for sustainable and innovative gardening solutions. At BulBel, we are dedicated to empowering individuals to grow their own food, regardless of their living situation, and to connect with nature in meaningful ways.

Thank you for joining me on this journey from basement beginnings to a blossoming business. Stay tuned for more updates and insights as BulBel continues to grow and thrive.
